Proceeds from annual event benefit Fenton Area Public Schools

Fenton Education Foundation Poker Fundraiser

Those who “know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em,” still have time to buy in to the annual Col. Fenton Texas Hold ‘em Poker Tournament at the Fenton Hotel Tavern & Grille.

This year’s 11th annual event will be Thursday, March 3. It is sponsored by the Fenton Education Foundation. Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit Fenton Area Public Schools in the areas of arts, academics and athletics.

According to Fenton history, in the mid-1800s, founding fathers Col. William Fenton and Robert LeRoy played a poker game. The winner would have the town named after him. The loser would have the main street in town named after him, and other streets in town named after his family members. Obviously, Fenton won the card game.

Doors open at 5 p.m., check-in is at 6 p.m. and play begins at 6:30 p.m. Buy-in is $100, which includes the cost of one player, one spectator and free hors d’oeuvres until 10 p.m. A cash bar will be available.

Spectators not accompanying a card player are encouraged to attend for $20 at the door, which includes a free hors d’oeuvres bar.

Following the card game, a section of LeRoy Street will be ceremonially renamed in the winner’s honor for approximately one year.

First-round winners will receive $100, second-round winners will receive $150 more ($250 total), plus dinner for two at The Fenton Hotel Tavern & Grille.

The final table winner will receive $750 more ($1,000 total), plus have a section of LeRoy Street named in their honor.

Tickets may be obtained from any foundation board member, at the Fenton schools’ administrative office, or The Fenton Hotel Tavern & Grille. To learn more about the tournament or FEF, call (810) 591-4700 or visitfentoneducationfoundation.org
