Get your poker face ready
Annual Texas hold ‘em tourney set for March 7

If you enjoy an evening of playing poker and would also love to win as much as $1,000 and have a street named in your honor for a year, you won’t want to miss the 2013 Colonel Fenton’s Texas Hold ‘em Poker Tournament.
This annual event, now in its eighth year, benefits the Fenton Area Public Schools Education Foundation (FAPSEF), which raises funds for its teachers and students in the fields of arts, academics and athletics.
For people unfamiliar with Fenton’s history, in the mid-1800s, Col. William Fenton and Robert LeRoy played poker to name the town and main street. Fenton won the card game.
FAPSEF members will be hosting the tournament at The Fenton Hotel Tavern & Grille, honoring the historic event, scheduled for Thursday, March 7.
Doors open at 5 p.m., check-in is at 6 p.m. and play begins at 6:30 p.m. Buy-in is $100, which includes the cost of one player, one spectator and free hors d’oeuvres until 9 p.m. A cash bar will be available.
Following the card game, LeRoy Street will be ceremonially renamed in the winner’s honor for approximately one year. First-round winners will receive $100, second-round winners will receive $150 more ($250 total), plus dinner for two at The Fenton Hotel Tavern & Grille. The final table winner will receive $750 more ($1,000 total), plus have LeRoy Street named in their honor.
Spectators are welcome and encouraged to attend, with a $10 cover charge. Tickets are now on sale. They can be obtained from any foundation board member, at the Fenton schools’ administrative office, or The Fenton Hotel Tavern & Grille.
